January 23, 2017 Statement from Tippi McCullough, President of the Stonewall Democratic Caucus of AR

Statement from Tippi McCullough, President of the Stonewall Democratic Caucus of AR regarding Treasurer Dennis Milligan’s response to disparaging remarks on social media made by Hunter Hatcher, an employee of the Treasurer’s office, about women and the LGBTQ community:

The apology from Arkansas Treasurer Dennis Milligan for the comments of Treasurer’s Office employee Hunter Hatcher, though appreciated seem to come up short of a sincere and full apology for all of the harmful comments Hatcher actually said on social media. Treasurer Dennis Milligan apologizes for the comments Hatcher made about women and “other” comments he made. Does this mean other comments specifically about women because there were other posts about women or is it supposed to encompass the disparaging remarks about the LGBTQ community also?

Our statement specifically addressed Hatcher’s tweet saying:

Y’all in Trump’s America now! Time to flick that chip off ya shoulder
and quit being so offended. Gay jokes are back on ya bunch of
homos!

We would appreciate clarification on whether Treasurer Milligan believes that these words were also “disappointing” and “insulting.” We would also like to know whether those specific words represent the views of the Treasurer.
